3rd Grade Policies
Third Grade Grading Policy & FIT
Third grade is the first year that the students will receive numeric grades, as well as letter grades for each subject. In order to assure that students master curriculum and to foster an environment where authentic learning is valued, students will be able to make corrections on major tests that receive a grade lower than a 70. The corrections must be returned with a parent signature within a week of the original test. Corrections will allow students to receive a maximum grade of a 70. We strongly encourage parents to assist their child in understanding their errors and corrections at home. Report cards will be posted online every nine weeks, and the first one will be given to you at Parent/Teacher conferences (October 25, 26, and 27). Papers will be sent home weekly on Thursdays in your child's "Thursday Folder" (color varies per class). Inside of the right pocket will be graded papers. We encourage you to sit with your child and go over the work with them. These papers are yours to keep. On the left side will be a comment sheet with your child’s weekly letter grade for academics and behavior, as well as any messages from the teacher, if necessary.
Make-Up Work Policy:
Work missed during an absence will be collected while your child is out and given to them upon returning to school. For each day missed, students will have one day to complete make up work. Work will not be given out prior to a student's absence, except in critical or exceptional times on a case by case basis.
Third Grade Homework Policy
Your child will have homework on a regular basis in order to practice skills and to develop responsibility. Math homework will be given on a nightly basis in order to practice the daily skill from the math lesson. Language Arts (Reading/Writing) homework will be assigned once weekly and is expected to be turned in on Fridays. We also ask that our students are reading a good-fit book each night at home. You should expect homework to take approximately 30 minutes per night. If it is taking your child more than thirty minutes per night, we need to find out the cause and come up with some solutions - it should not be a burden on either parent or child. Students will be given a Weekly Homework Tracker each Monday that informs them of what homework will be assigned for the week.
Transportation Changes
Changes in transportation often happen mid-day and unexpectedly. If this occurs, please make the change on our district SmartTag system before 1:50 pm. If it is later than this please **notify the office** with either a phone call (512) 732-9200 or an email at [email protected]. Feel free to 'cc me as well, but the priority email should go straight to the office, as I can not guarantee I will receive the email in time to notify your child.

-No guest riders will be allowed on any bus.. While we realize this may cause an inconvenience to some families, we made the decision based on bus route and fuel efficiency, management in terms of the amount of consistent riders on our routes, and equal transportation offerings for all of our families. The definition of a guest rider is a student who rides a bus other than the one they are assigned. If a student remains on his/her assigned bus but gets off at a different stop along the route, this is allowed because he/she is already accounted on that bus.
Absences
Notes, Notes, Notes!!! All absences need to have a documented note letting the office know why the student was absent. This isn't a change, just reinforcing the need. Until we get a note, the absence is unexcused. Phone calls are not notes. TEA will not allow documentation to be campus generated. Parents can call, but they will be directed to send a note when the child returns or email the school. You can also email our person in charge of attendance at BPE, Nikki Thakkar at [email protected].
For extended absences (over 3 days) please complete and return the extended absence form.
Birthday Policy
Due to changing times, nutritional concerns/allergies, and past disruptions, birthday treats and celebrations will no longer be allowed on the Bridge Point campus. You are welcome to bring a treat for your child but please do not provide treats for a group of kids or your child's class. This was a very hard decision for Mrs. Meek and the school body to make, as we know how much birthday celebrations are enjoyed. However, we are hopeful that you will be able to find a time outside of the school day to help your child celebrate their special day. In addition, invitations of any kind will only be permitted for distribution at school if EVERYONE (all boys and all girls) in the class receives an invitation.
Snack Policy
Snack will be be at 10:00 each day. Please make sure your child packs a HEALTHY snack. No candy, cookies or drinks, other than water, will be permitted. Water bottles are allowed as long as they have a closed top. There are NO nut-free classrooms in 3rd grade.
